2009 Events

2009 Pantry Raid

Robert E. Lee and John Tyler High Schools collected over 62,000 pounds of food for the 19th annual Pantry Raid that began on Monday, October 26th.  Over the last 19 years, the students have collected over 862,000 pounds of food for the East Texas Food Bank.  The school that collects the most amount of food will earn bragging rights.  The results were announced at the John Tyler and Robert E. TEXO Chili Cook-Off and Food Drive

November 11th - TEXO will host their first Chili Cook-Off and food drive on at the TEXO Conference Center at 11101 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, Texas from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The food items collected will be distributed among the East Texas Food Bank, North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank. Twenty five member companies have entered teams to date with additional entrants anticipated. Each team must cook at least two gallons of chili to be judged by a panel. The cost to attend the cook-off is a minimum of five (5) non-perishable food items.

Miss Texas International, Jade Monfils will be on hand to pick ten prelimiary judges from the audience to judge chili from the 25 teams before going to final celebrity judging. Click here to learn more.



Gresham Barn Sale

October 14th - Gersham Barn Sale held a preview party to benefit the East Texas Food Bank which raised over $700.

KLTV, KTRE, Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, Wells Fargo Advisors and Brookshire Brothers Take Action Against Hunger

September 17th - 28th join Hunger Action Month’s Give A Little Feed Lot food and fund drive benefiting the East Texas Food Bank.  KLTV, KTRE, Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods, Wells Fargo Advisors and Brookshire Brothers food and fund drive benefiting the East Texas Food Bank.

Drop off your food donation at any local Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods or Brookshire Brothers. 

You will also have an opportunity to give $1, $5 or more when you are checking out at Brookshire's or Super 1 Foods.  Every dollar donated to the East Texas Food Bank helps provide sixteen meals, that's doubled, thanks to Wells Fargo Advisors!

Fall Car and Truck Show

September 19, 2009 – Tyler Mitsubishi and Lambert’s are hosting a Fall Car and Truck Show on Saturday, September 19th.  All entry fees will benefit the East Texas Food Bank.  September is Hunger Action Month and the East Texas Food Bank is asking East Texans to Give A Little Feed A Lot.  Every dollar donated to the East Texas Food Bank helps provide eight meals to hungry East Texans.  Read more>



Macy's Come+Together

September 15, 2009 –
Macy’s will launch “Come Together,” an innovative community-centered campaign, to raise 10 million meals for Feeding America and its network of food banks.  The East Texas Food Bank is a member of Feeding America.

The campaign rallies the public to host special dinner parties in their homes and ask their guests to pledge a donation to Feeding America in lieu of bringing a host gift. Macy’s will match donations dollar for dollar until the goal of 10 million meals is reached.  To celebrate and kick-off this important effort, Macy’s will host the “World’s Largest Dinner Party” with a first course served at all Macy’s stores.  Macy’s, 4700 South Broadway in Tyler, is hosting a first course event on Tuesday, September 15 at 6:00 pm. Woodforest Charitable Foundation and Woodforest National Bank Make First Gift to Hunger Action Month

September 1st - Woodforest Charitable Foundation and Woodforest National Bank made the first gift to the East Texas Food Bank for Hunger Action Month at 12:01 am on September 1, 2009.  Woodforest Charitable Foundation donated $7,000 which will help provide over 56,000 meals for hungry children, working families and seniors who are struggling to put food on the table.
