East Texas Food Bank Expected to Save on Energy Bills
Through Reduce Your Use Grant™ Program
First Choice Power awards food bank a Reduce Your Use™ grant to help save money and energy by installing energy-efficient upgrades
(Tyler, Texas) June 22, 2011 - First Choice Power is expanding its partnering with East Texas Food Bank to help the food bank save money on its energy bills by awarding a Reduce Your Use™ Grant for new freezers. Reduce Your Use Grants provide Texas schools, chambers and nonprofits as much as $2,000 for energy-efficient upgrades, products and programs. East Texas Food Bank was one of 34 Reduce Your Use Grant recipients. First Choice Power awarded more than $60,000 in grants across the state.
“This grant program allows us to give back to the communities First Choice Power is a part of,” said Bryan Hayduk, president, First Choice Power. “By helping nonprofits afford energy efficient upgrades we are able to help reduce their energy usage and lower their bill. Those savings go back to help their clients, those most in need in our communities.”
With the new freezers the East Texas Food Bank will help keep the food fresh before being distributed to the hungry through a network of more than 200 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and other nonprofits across 26 counties.
“These freezers are coming at a very good time for our partner agencies. We have had several requests for equipment support over the past year and we able to qualify where they would provide the greatest impact,” said Dennis Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank. “The fact that this is energy efficient equipment is very important as the savings will be used directly to provide additional food.”
Other grant recipients are implementing projects such as installing new energy-efficient lighting, replacing outdated technology and making upgrades in insulation. For more information and a list of all 2011 recipients, visit www.FirstChoicePower.com/reduce.
