G-Mc Produce and Flowers Baking Company Help End Hunger Action Month with Donations
G-Mc Produce and Flowers Baking Company helped close "Hunger Action Month" with donations of bread and various melons to the East Texas Food Bank. "Produce and bread typically fly off our shelf," Dennis Cullinane, Executive Director said. "We are very fortune to get these donations."
The East Texas Food Bank's goal for September was to raise enough food and donations to provide 300,000 meals. Through donations and support, we are proud to announce that we were able to raise over 310,000 meals this month. That will help provide hungry East Texans healthy meals through the upcoming holiday season. Thank you for helping and taking action against hunger!
Ozarka Brand Natural Spring Water Donates for Hunger Action Month
Ozarka Brand Natural Spring Water donates 36,000 bottles of water to the East Texas Food Bank's "Hunger Action Month" food drive. "It's a privilege for us to continue our partnership with the East Texas Food Bank," said Scott Bradford, Supply Chain Manager for Ozarka Brand Natural Spring Water. "We are glad to contribute a high quality, healthy beverage as part of our commitment to this region and to this cause."
Since 2003, Ozarka's bottling facility in Hawkins, Texas has donated more than 684,000 bottles of water to the East Texas Food Bank. "We are grateful to Ozarka Brand Natural Spring Water's continued support and with this gift, it helps us to provide to more people in need," Dennis Cullinane, Executive Director of the East Texas Food Bank said.
Brookshire Brothers Partners to Fight Hunger
Twenty Brookshire Brothers locations in East Texas are participating in the East Texas Food Bank food drive to allow their "shoppers to help...and make a difference", according to Emily Watts from Brookshire Brothers.
"Shoppers can pick up a $7 bag or a $12 bag of items that have been specifically picked out that are high in protein...and can be run easily right through the register," Watts said.
"We've had a very busy summer and distributed a lot of food through various programs," Dennis Cullinane Executive Director of the East Texas Food bank said. "Our inventory has been really depleted, and it's really important to get more products like this, particularly the canned vegetables and the peanut butter."
The drive will continue through the end of September. You can pick up a pre-made bag of items at any participating Brookshire's, Super 1 Food, or Brookshire Brothers locations in East Texas. Also, Brookshire's has $1 and $5 scan coupons which can be requested at checkout. Donations may also be made via www.easttexasfoodbank.org.
Brookshire Grocery Company Makes Hunger Action Donation
Brookshire Grocery Company announced on KLTV's "Good Morning East Texas" a donation of 37,000 pounds of food to kickoff our "Hunger Action Month" food drive. That will help provide over 28,000 meals for hungry East Texans. You can help by visiting any Brookshire's or Super 1 location and pick up a pre-made sack of groceries to add in your shopping cart. You may also pick up a $1 or $5 coupon and have it scanned at checkout.
John Tyler Wins Pantry Raid
John Tyler High School was announced the winner of the 20th Annual Pantry Raid. Both schools raised 25, 101 pounds of food, helping to provide over 19,000 meals for hungry East Texans. Over 850,000 pounds of food have been raised during the Pantry Raid since it began in 1991. Congratulations JT!
2010 Pantry Raid
Robert E. Lee and John Tyler High School will collect food for the East Texas Food Bank through Friday, September 10th. Over 62,000 pounds of food was collected last year between both schools. The winner will be announced at the football game, with bragging rights and a trophy presentation.

First Donation for Hunger Action Month
Woodforest Charitable Foundation and Woodforest National Bank presented at $12,000 check to support the East Texas Food Bank's BackPack and Kids Cafe program in Bowie, Cass, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Rusk, Shelby, Smith, Titus and Van Zandt counties.
"In this economic environment, more and more familes have to make a choice between feeding their family and providing othe essential necessities," said Kim Marling, vice president of Woodforest Charitable Foundation. "The Woodforest Charitable Foundation with Woodforest National Bank are grateful to have the opportunity to provide food assistance for children's program of the East Texas Food Bank, including the BackPack and Kids Cafe programs."
