Walmart Donates to the East Texas Food Bank
(Tyler, Texas) September 15, 2011 – Several Region 5 Walmart stores donated $14,555 to the East Texas Food Bank. The gift is part of a partnership between Walmart and General Mills. Walmart has been along time partner with the East Texas Food Bank and Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger‐relief charity, in the fight against hunger. Every dollar donated to the East Texas Food Bank will help provide eight meals so this gift will help provide 116,440 meals to East Texans struggling with hunger. “We wanted to select the East Texas Food Bank for one of the checks due to the coverage and customer base that it serves,” said Bill Bolton, Market Manager with Walmart. “It’s a great organization and it was an honor to do that.”
“We are grateful to Walmart for their continued support to alleviate hunger,” said Dennis Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank. “Walmart has stood by the East Texas Food Bank in so many ways – from employee directed donations programs to corporate grants for major capital equipment to being an active partner in our daily store food donation program. Without donors like Walmart, we could not be as nearly as effective as we have been.”
