Direct Education
ETFB’s Direct Education Program provides nutrition education to children, adults and seniors through nutrition and cooking classes. Topics covered in direct education classes include healthy eating on a budget, food safety, meal planning, cooking, physical activity and more. Classes almost always include food demonstrations and/or hands on food preparation and are available in English and Spanish.
Child-Based Programs
MyPlate for Kids
- These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length and include a nutrition lesson, game/activity and a snack.
- Can be offered as a series (4-6 sessions) or a one-time session.
- Offered at schools, afterschool program and summer feeding sites.
Head Start (Pre-K) Program
- These sessions are 20-30 minutes in length and include a game/activity and a taste test or snack.
- Can be offered as a series (4 sessions) or a one-time session.
Adult-Based Programs
MyPlate Program for Adults
- These sessions are generally 30-45 minutes in length and include a nutrition lesson and food demonstration.
- Can be offered as a series (4-6 sessions) or a one-time session.
Cooking Matters Grocery Store Tours
- This 1-1.5 hour session helps participants learn how to make smart shopping choices at the store on a budget
Viva Bien/Live Well
- These sessions focused on preventing diabetes are 1 hour in length and include a nutrition lesson and food demonstration.
- Offered exclusively as an 8-session series.
Senior Adult-Based Programs
Eat Smart, Live Strong
- A four-part series focused on physical activity and increasing fruit and veggie intake amongst senior adults.
- Each session is 1 hour and includes a short exercise activity, nutrition lesson and a food demonstration.
- The four sessions can be offered as four consecutive weeks or once per month.
Seniors Eating Well
- These sessions focused on senior adults are generally 45 minutes to 1 hour in length. They include a nutrition lesson and food demonstration.
- Can be offered as one-time sessions or a series (4-9 sessions).
