East Texas Food Bank Volunteer Guidelines

  • The minimum age to volunteer at ETFB in Tyler is 8 years old.
    The minimum age to volunteer at our Resource Centers is 11 years old.
  • A chaperone or parent must accompany volunteers under the age of 16. If under 18 and volunteering without a chaperone or parent, the Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability Form must be completed by the parents/legal guardians of that volunteer.
  • Volunteers must adhere to ETFB’s Volunteer Dress Code as listed below:
    – Volunteers must wear closed-toe, slip-resistant shoes. Flip-Flops or Sandals will be NOT be permitted.
    – Tank tops or shirts that expose midrift will NOT be permitted.
    – T-shirts with offensive language or obscenities will NOT be permitted.
    – Dangling jewelry will NOT be permitted to be worn in the volunteering areas.
  • Please make sure you arrive on time for your scheduled volunteer shift. Do NOT bring more volunteers than you have originally scheduled.
  • The East Texas Food Bank is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is prohibited across the entire premises including the parking lot areas. This includes E-Cigs and vaping materials.
  • All types of firearms, weapons, alcohol, narcotics or other illegal substances are NOT permitted on ETFB premises.
  • The East Texas Food Bank is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal items.
  • Swearing, profanity, or disrespectful behavior in the volunteer center will NOT be permitted under any conditions.
  • Please do not climb on or attempt to operate any of the machinery in the warehouse or production areas.
  • All products donated to the ETFB are designated for distribution to our nonprofit member agencies and clients only. Items deemed unfit for distribution must be discarded by the appropriate means. Consuming or removing donated food items from the premises will NOT be permitted.
  • As outlined in the ETFB Chemical Control Program, do not bring or use any chemicals (aerosols, degreasers, glass cleaners, insecticides, etc.) that are not designated for use by ETFB personnel.
  • As defined by local, state and federal food safety laws, persons with boils, sores, infected wounds, infections or any other communicable diseases are NOT permitted to contact food. If you suspect that you may have any relevant infectious disease or condition to which you may have been exposed, please notify ETFB personnel immediately.
  • As defined by local, state and federal food safety laws, all volunteers must adhere to the ETFB Allergen Control Program. This program identifies required and recommended allergen control measures that ETFB must adhere to in order to ensure the distribution of safe and wholesome food. Furthermore, any volunteer that has a specific food allergy must notify ETFB staff so that any potential exposure risk can be minimized during the volunteer session.
  • At their discretion, the ETFB and its employees reserve the right to ban any volunteer who does not comply with any and all instructions and with our no-show policy.
