ETX Food distributors practicing extra safety precautions ahead of possible Covid-19 outbreak

From hand sanitizer, water and toilet paper, many are stocking up on supplies in case there is a local Covid-19 outbreak. It is recommended people have at least 14 days of food stocked up. There are some who can’t access that amount of food. 

“The outbreak and we are potentially facing really puts us into a different measure of safety at this point,” CEO of the East Texas Food Bank, Dennis Cullinane, said.

East Texas Food Bank hosts first ‘produce drop and roadshow’ of the year to benefit community

The Smith County Food Security Council hosted its ‘produce drop and roadshow’ event of the year.

The event kicked off Tuesday morning at the New Days Community Church in Tyler where members of the community were able to come out and receive assistance in many different ways.

Along with healthy produce, health screenings, benefits assistance, job programs, and WIC enrollment were offered.

Free produce, community resource event underway in Tyler

The East Texas Food Bank distributed free, fresh produce Tuesday during the Smith County Food Security Council’s Produce Drop and Community Resource Roadshow.

The event runs until 6 p.m. at the on Tuesday at the New Days Community Church in Tyler.

In addition to free produce, families have the opportunity to connect with community resources, including health screenings, job and education programs, and benefits assistance such as SNAP, Medicaid and WIC.

Brookshire Grocery Co. donates 325 bags of food to East Texas Food Bank

Brookshire Grocery Co. has donated 325 bags of nonperishable food items to the East Texas Food Bank, according to a news release.

The donations were made possible through the collection event, which as held from Dec. 19 through Saturday at the Brookshire’s store on Rice Road.

“The holidays are such a joyous time for so many of us, and our mission is to ensure that feeling for our East Texas neighbors that are experiencing the despair of food insecurity,” said East Texas Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Dennis Cullinane.
